Travel Transducer Setup

Configure the transducer, travel connections, speed reference points, and damping analysis in a switchgear template.

Power on and open Switchgear

Power on the ACTAS Px60, then select the “Switchgear” tile on the touch screen.

Open the type catalog

Select “Type catalog.”

Select or create a template

Select an existing template from the list to open it, or select the “+” button to create a new template.

Set travel units and conversion factors

  • Select the “Construction” tab.
  • Select the “Travel” tab and set the transducer conversion factor if needed. Use the “main contact” factor. An additional speed factor can also be set.
  • Regardless of whether a conversion factor is used, when using a linear transducer, change the default unit from degrees to mm in both the measuring unit and evaluation unit.
  • Press the back arrow at the top left.

Configure travel connections and sensor type

  • Select the “Connections” tab and “edit default connections”, or select timing under custom connections if configured.
  • Select the “Travel” tab.
  • Open the drop-down under “sensor 1” and select “main contact.”
  • Select “Brk” when using one transducer, or “3-Ph” when using three transducers, one on each phase.

  • Select the gear symbol under the sensor 1 drop-down to set the transducer type.
  • Select a pre-configured sensor from the library or configure a transducer directly here.
  • For a linear transducer, set “sensor input” to the total length of the motion rod. For a rotary transducer, set it to the total rotational motion, for example 360°.
  • Select “OK”, then press the back arrow at the top left.

Set closing and opening speed reference points

  • Select the “Analysis” tab.
  • Select the “Main contacts” tab.
  • Select “Close speed” and set the two reference points where closing velocity should be calculated on the travel curve.

  • The reference points can be set using multiple methods available in the drop-down menu.

  • Stroke [absolute] specifies a direct mm or ° position, whereas [relative] specifies a percentage of stroke.
  • Select “Open speed” to set the reference points for tripping velocity.

Configure damping analysis and save

Damping analysis can also be configured.

Damping can be calculated by “change of velocity”, with the analysis points defined as:

1: Start of damping.
2: Evaluation window start.
3: Evaluation window end.

Alternatively, damping can be calculated from saddle height, with the analysis points defined as:

1: Start of damping.
2: End of damping.

Press the save icon to apply the transducer changes to the template.
